The Hornmoldhaus city msueum is named after its builder Sebastian Hornmold (1500-1581) and has housed the town history collection of the town of Bietigheim-Bissingen since 1989.
Objects are exhibited, collected and researched here that make the past of the town of Bietigheim-Bissingen and its surroundingstangible. These include finds from the Stone Age, Roman and Alemannic settlements and the Middle Ages. Exhibits from the 16th century illustrate the heyday of Bietigheim, during which Sebastian Hornmold worked as town clerk and bailiff. His half-timbered house nuilt in 1535/36 with its magnificent paintings is particularly unique for this period.
The main themes of the permanent exhibitions are half-timbered housses, rafting, town, elevation, weekly farmers markets and the Pferdemarkt, an annual faire, as well as crafts, mills, industrialization and personalities such as the doctor Erwin von Baelz (1849-1913), who worked in Japan.
