Renovation of the Hornmoldhaus

The Hornmoldhaus has been municipal property since the early 1960s. From 1967, the city used the entrance area as an exhibition space. This was a temporary solution, because the demolition of the building had long been considered in connection with the planned expansion of the town hall.

It remained a temporary exhibition space threatened with demolition until the 1970s. However, the importance of the building for the city's history had not yet been completely forgotten. Citizens interested in history pointed out the paintings suspected to be behind the plaster and the magnificent half-timbering. The idea of preventing the demolition of the Hornmoldhaus was taken up by the "Citizens' Initiative for a Humane City of Bietigheim". The project found an important supporter in Mayor Manfred List.

It is thanks to this civic engagement that the interior painting was (re-)discovered in 1976 and the house preserved. The following year, the local council gave the green light to extensively renovate the house. The necessary dismantling, exposure and restoration of the facade and paintings took place between 1979 and 1981.

Since the 1980s, the Hornmoldhaus has been restored to its former glory and has housed Bietigheim-Bissingen's Stadtmuseum since 1989. The original condition of this unique Renaissance monument has been restored as far as possible.
