Welcome to the Hornmoldhaus City Museum!

The Hornmoldhaus City Museum is named after its builder, Sebastian Hornmold (1500–1581), and has housed the historical collection of the town of Bietigheim-Bissingen since 1989.

The museum exhibits, collects, and researches objects that bring the history of Bietigheim-Bissingen and its surroundings to life. These include finds from the Stone Age, as well as from Roman and Alemannic settlements and the Middle Ages. Exhibits from the 16th century illustrate the town’s heyday, when Sebastian Hornmold served as town clerk and bailiff. His half-timbered house, built in 1535/36 and adorned with magnificent paintings, is a unique example of architecture from this period.

The main themes of the permanent exhibition include half-timbered houses, rafting, the town’s elevation in status, weekly farmers’ markets and the annual Pferdemarkt fair, as well as crafts, mills, industrialization, and notable personalities such as the physician Erwin von Baelz (1849–1913), who worked in Japan.

We look forward to welcoming you!
